Product Description
Purple Heart, sometimes called Amaranth, is a strong and durable wood that is great for inlays, accent pieces, flooring, furniture, heavy construction and more! When freshly cut, this wood appears to be a grayish/purple color. Upon exposure it turns into a deeper eggplant purple color. With even more age and expose to UV rays, this wood becomes dark brown with hints of purple. The color change can be slowed by applying UV-resistant finishes. The grain of Purple Heart is typically straight, but it can also be irregular or wavy. Although it has excellent strength properties, this wood is known to extrude a gummy resin when heated with dull tools or if cutter speeds are too high which can lead to clogged tools.
