MHG Tool's commitment to "Quality For Professionals" continues with their introduction of professional carving tools. We do not throw about the term "lifetime tools" casually, so it is a great pleasure when we can say exactly that about such a finely made line. MHG carving tools are hand forged, hardened, and ground from the finest quality German steel. The mirror polished blades are hardened to an HRC of 59-61 throughout their entire length. Quite unusual to carving tools, the backs of the blades are polished, then burnished and lacquered black. Beyond the beautiful, sleek look, this serves the dual purpose of protecting the blades and giving a visual reference when honing and sharpening.
Each tool has been professionally sharpened at the factory, however, you'll want to hone them to your personal preference before initial use. The traditional octagon shape of the strong European hornbeam handles helps provide a sure grip at any angle of use. Depending on blade type and width, all carving tools measure approximately 9" - 12" in length. Because they are hand forged some minor variations in size and shape may occur.
