Product Description
Due to it's versatility, the #4 Smoothing Plane is one of the very first planes a woodworker should own. It can handle everything from coarser cuts to fine finish smoothing.
This update of Stanley's traditional #4 "Sweetheart" plane has a ductile cast iron base and frog that are cast as one piece to deliver maximum stability to the iron and reduce chatter.
The body is fully stress relieved and aged before it is precision machined for flatness and perpendicularity between the soles and side. It's heavier body deadens vibrations for increased performance.
A patent pending blade mechanism serves as the lateral adjustment. This adjustment is quick and easy to lock to retain settings. Finely machined solid brass adjustments assure smoother operation. The adjustable mouth offers an additional means of fine tuning settings for top performance.
Includes a 2" wide A2 steel blade that is thicker (1/8"), and through hardened in a controlled atmosphere to an Rc 60-62, for chatter reduction and better edge retention. Blade is ground to a 25 degree angle.
Plane is 2-1/2" wide and has an overall length of approximately 11". Cherry handle and tote. Limited lifetime warranty. Mexico/UK
